Photograph of the Year 2010 Competition Results

Well, the results were released early last month, but we have been a bit confused by them so we held off on blogging about it, but we think we’ve finally worked it out.

Dylan and I entered a total of 17 images across two categories in the 4th Better Photography Magazine’s Photograph of the Year 2010 competition and we have been pleasantly surprised by the results we achieved.  As expected, all of our Portrait images did not do as well as our entries in the Landscape category, scoring Bronze awards.  However, our landscapes did much better than we thought, with 9 out of 10 images scoring Silver awards, and being featured in the top 50 placings!

Of these, 3 of them placed in the top 6, and 5 of them in the top 15.  My image of Godafoss in Iceland came runner-up, missing out on the category prize to a pretty amazing image by Ben Ryan.  Originally we thought that we had come 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the placings, but it appears that the 3rd to 6th placings scored equally and they are being randomly assigned any of these spots when the website loads.  Click here to see all winners and placings.

We are encouraged by our performance and it’s more than likely we will look to enter them again this year.  I think it’s an excellent way to gauge the standard of our images and an important part of self progression.  Maybe we’ll see some of your entries in this year’s top 50!
